Why Wet Sump

If I am not mistaken the Yamaha 700 twin is a wet sump engine, so why designing a bike which requires as much ground clearance as possible do Yamaha use an engine that keeps all of its oil in a sump? This will result in the mass of the engine having to be higher than it should be and that is just a compromise of the bike. Yamaha, if not to short change everyone should consider adapting the engine for dry sump operation and store the oil in the frame as per the outgoing Tenere. - TimL
